What's Wrong With Being Promiscuous?
Really, what’s wrong with being promiscuous? I mean, the worst that could happen is that the female can get pregnant and not know who the baby’s daddy is; or we could just end up becoming infected with syphilis, gonorrhea, herpes, HIV or other life threatening STD’s. Certainly, the PROs of being promiscuous definitely outweigh the CONs, don’t they? Okay … now it’s time for me to stop being sarcastic.
Lately, I’ve been speaking to some females around my age (I will refer to them as acquaintances, rather than friends) and I was quite alarmed at some of our conversations. Here is one, for instance:
Girl: Remember the cute guy that I told you that I had a crush on last week?
Me: Yeah, what about him?
Girl: Well, he’s my boyfriend now.
Me: Okay, cool. Nice catch lol. (and random conversation continues)
One week later ….
Girl: I’m depressed. I want to break up with my boyfriend.
Me: Already? Why? What happened?
Girl: Well, I never really liked him, I just had a crush on him and I f*cked him, but he’s no good in bed, so now I have no use for him. Plus, he is annoying.
At this point I am shocked and speechless. Thankfully my cell phone rings, so that I don’t have to continue this conversation.
Apart from this conversation, many females have hinted that they would sleep with guys soon after they started speaking to them. My question is, do all females do that? Was I so caught up in my own little world that I never realized that we (females) are just as promiscuous as the males?
Maybe I am old fashioned, but I believe that before I end up in bed with a guy, I must first get to know him, spend time with him, develop feelings for him and TRUST HIM (and this process does not take only two weeks). Since when are we jumping headfirst into something as serious and delicate as sexual intercourse, within a matter of days of meeting the guy? What happens when we find out that the guy was only using us, that he has some disease, or a bad reputation, or is married with kids? If we continue this cycle of meeting a guy, sleeping with him, breaking up, moving on to the next guy, sleeping with him, breaking up, etc., where the hell are we going to end up?
I found out from my friend Al that when it comes to HIV, the Caribbean is the second most infected region in the world, with Sub-Saharan Africa being the first. Imagine that we are more infected than all those other LARGER regions.
At the end of 2007, an estimated 230,000 people were living with HIV and AIDS in the Caribbean. Some 20,000 people were newly infected during 2007, and there were 14,000 deaths due to AIDS.
In two countries in this region – the Bahamas and Haiti – more than 2% of the adult population is living with HIV. Higher prevalence rates are found only in sub-Saharan Africa, making the Caribbean the second-most affected region in the world. Half of adults living with the virus are women.
I am genuinely concerned about our health and sexual habits in the Caribbean, hence my reason for writing this post. Sex is a wonderful thing, but carelessness and having sexual intercourse with multiple (or even one) sexual partner(s) can ruin our lives. I have seen people die from AIDS, and it was not a pretty sight. I know people with herpes who have to deal with disgusting outbreaks, and who are on medication for the rest of their lives. Lades, make sure that you not only have one sexual partner, but practice safe sex as well. Don’t only rely on the pill – use condoms as well because even if you are being faithful, you don’t know if your partner is messing around. If you can’t resist the urge to sleep with every guy that you fancy, at least use protection (and carry your own condoms because guys always claim to “forget” theirs at home or in their other pair of jeans).
Guys, I know that the tone of this post was directed to the females, but you should think about this as well, as MANY of you are evn more promiscuous than the females. I will leave you guys with some reading material so that you can see this is NOT A JOKE!
Reading Material:

girl… i so agree with you……just last week we discussed that same issue….some women believe that because they are using the pill that it is all well….HELLO !! WAKE uP LADIES!! there are worst things to protect yourself from!! it is better to have a child with someone you love and TRUST and who will be faithful to you and build a life with than be HIV positive with a Kid who you may not see grow up…It saddens me when i see so many young ladies doing such and have not yet accomplished their dreams and careers (if they have any) pregnant with no stable job and don’t have the mental maturity to handle a child…i have more to say but i don’t think that this comment has enough character to allow me to say i that i want to …..
CONDOMS ARE FOR FREE AT THE HEALTH CENTER!!
protect yourself guys and if you can’t then ABSTAIN (100% effective!!)
GREAT BLOG TAMICKS!!!
i realllly realllly like this post. it is probably the best and most truthful blog i’ve read. Some of us medical students are trying to set this thing up where we can go to different high schools and inform teenagers about sex….u think the teachers would be against it?
Hi,
Metz here of Empty Streets 1027 dropping by from Entrecard. Wishing yah a great weekend ahead
Amazing topic discussion
wow that is something to be concerned about, not only women, including men whether straight or gay have to ensure their protection against std and many more afflictions that promiscuity could bring.
Dont forget to keep cool this hot summer season

I didnt get around to writing on the topic (too busy) but I see that you have also taken up the cause as I have of late. It hurts when you see how loosely people live nowadays (not saying I havent made mistakes but these people take it to the extreme)
When I saw the statistics it really hit home how bad this thing has become and yet most of us go thru life as if it can’t happen to us.

When people are young, they tend to think of themselves as indestructible, and often think that “it” can never happen to them. In today’s world, casual sex can be deadly or at the least, make you sick for your whole shortened life. Very good post and I already knew you were one smart cookie.

You’re so right to be afraid of young people these days. As a fetish photographer I see many female models come and go and they all have stories of their promiscuity. None of them are straight either, they all seem to be “Bi” these days. Just last night I met with two girls for a shoot, one had been upset because she was being called a slut because she slept with a local band member simply because she wanted to and the other had pink eye she somehow contracted from a booty call… If the economy wasn’t so tough I’d be going back to shooting weddings and barmitzvahs!

I agree, it seems like most “bisexuals” just call themselves that. Another fine example of bisexual greed.
all bad decisions come from ignorance, i always say. if these kids today know what they are up against in the real world of sex, i think they’d be more careful with it. this is a great post, by the way. thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Well, maybe that is what they said that there is a generation gap..or maybe of the environment..either way the biggest influence would be PEERS..girls do this stuff to blend in on what other girls are doing nowadays..
I like being promiscuous. I have a boyfriend who’ve I’ve been for three years and I’ve slept with other guys (he doesn’t know about this except for one — when he found out we just talked through it) he’s my main guy, hell if guys can have a main girl and fuck with others then why shouldn’t a girl be allowed to do the same? It doesn’t matter if no one knows, in my opinion, I just want to get a taste from everyone male and female!
we only get one chance at life, so why not just fuck around? I still love my boyfriend, but sex isn’t such a big deal to me as long as it’s done safely and both individuals agree upon it to just be between them. I LOVE SEX
